Waikiki Beach

Standard

Having landed in Honolulu International Airport and dropped our bacpacks, thefirst place to visit was Wikiki Beach. We just love this beach that we kept visiting that beach EVERY MORNING for A WEEK. Waking up at 8 am, without no shower or facewashing, we direcly strolled to Waikiki for bodysurfing for 1-2 hours. Thankfully our hostel is less than 5 minute walk from Wikiki, and our hostel also provides us with boogey board for free to rent. Morning is an ideal time to go to Waikiki since we were still fresh and needs to move our and stretch out. After bodyboarding, we feel fresher and ready for our activity.
Waikiki itself is a the main neighbor in Honolulu, located on the south shore of Oahu Island.
Other than the beach itself, Waikiki is the home of some cool places such as Kapiʻolani Park, Fort de Russy Military Reservation, Kahanamoku Lagoon, Kūhiō Beach Park, and Ala Wai Harbor. ‘Sprouting fresh water’ is the meaning of Waikiki, which came from Hawaiian language. Waikiki is not just the name of the beach. Waikiki stretches from the Ala Wai Canal (a channel dug to drain former wetlands) on the west and north, to Diamond Head (Lēʻahi) on the east. That large, but I still can see the Diamond Head from the Waikiki Beach.
You know what? Waikiki Beac is partly man-made. Yes, half of the beach marked off for surfers. Some meters off the sea into the ocean, the water is quite shallow. Nevertheless there are some rocks on the bottom. The waves in Wikiki, as with most ocean beaches, can be strong especially on windy days. Surfing at Waikīkī is known for its long rolling break, making it ideal for long boarding, tandem surfing and beginners. Our housemate told us that Kelly Slater, my favorite athlete, is in Hawaii! Unfortunately, he is now on the other part of Hawaii:(. As a beginner,I learn to surf in this beach, and I found it very challenging and so fun! I kept falling, but I also finally managed to stand up! Having spent every morning (and sometimes in the evening for its sunset) going swimming, we got sunburn that made us overtanned. I look awful, but I just dont care. The fun and the beauty of this place worth those overburn ;PP
